Root Cause Recommendation Guide

If you're here you've started going through the Root Cause Masterclass video series and you're antsy to start taking some action. 

There are some basic steps I recommend across the board no matter what your specific root cause is. And keep in mind, these issues are incredibly connected, it can have a domino effect, so chances are there is more than one root cause for you.

General recommendations:

  1. Clean up your diet. 

    • "Eat food, not too much, mostly greens." - Michael Pollan. Meaning, it doesn't have to be complicated. Eat real food, not fake food made in a lab. Eat enough so you're satisfied, but not stuffed. Eat more fruits and vegetables.
    • Eat quality fats and proteins. This includes meats that are free of antibiotics and hormones, grass fed beef, free range chicken, wild caught fish. A quality protein powder added to your smoothie is another great way to add in additional protein and nutrients. Here's the one I recommend. Also, nuts, coconut oil, olive oil, avocados (and oil), and ghee are great sources of healthy fats.
    • Eat organic. This can be tricky with marketing and labeling these days. With produce look for the product number, organic produce starts with #9. Do you're best to make sure the foods do not include GMO's and have not been grown with pesticides and herbicides. ;
    • Eliminate Trans Fats: these fats are major inflammatory producers and have no benefits to your health!
    • Eliminate processed sugars and artificial sweeteners. Stick to raw honey and maple syrup for sweeteners. 
  2. Take a quality multivitamin 

    • A quality multivitamin will give you a base dose of phytonutrients to help fill in any gaps you're missing or need extra support in. It will also give you these nutrients in a balanced ratio that your body can utilize and benefit from.
    • I say quality because not all multivitamins are created equal. Many supplements use synthetic forms of vitamins and minerals that your body won't recognize or utilize.   3. Exercise

    • Our bodies need to move and to be used. Creating an exercise routine of at least 4x/week is a must. 
    • One mistake people make is overdoing it, especially if your adrenals are fatigued. Stick to gentle/moderate exercise like brisk walking, yoga, biking, etc. Make sure it gets your heart rate up, but doesn't leave you completely warn out afterwards.

Now it's time to get into the specifics!

#1 Toxic Overload

  1. WATER!!! Drink plenty of water. At least half our body weight in ounces. If you're 200 lbs, then you'll need 100 ounces. If you're not used to this then work your way up to it. Staying hydrated is crucial to supporting your body's detox systems. If you're able, I highly recommend getting a quality water filter. I prefer the Berkey filtration system, it's effective but won't break the bank.
  2. Epsom salt baths, this is a great way to relax and promotes detoxing. 
  3. Saunas. Sweating is an incredibly important mode for your body to eliminate toxins. Be sure to drink plenty of water when you use the sauna.

    • Other common food sensitivities include nightshade vegetables (tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, and eggplant), beans, yeast, and high histamine foods (alcohol, pickled foods, avocados, smoked meats, etc).
