Essential Oils for Baby

Congratulations on your new little miracle! If you're anything like me, you're wanting to make the 'right' decision for baby in every way possible! And I have complete confidence that you will do your absolute best...cause that's all we can do, right.

When it comes to products to use for baby I know it's hard to find safe options that aren't loaded with chemical junk. And this is such an important time to make sure you are supporting their immune system as much as you can.

The beauty is that essential oils can provide a safe and effective option for supporting your new baby, preparing them for all that the world is going to throw their way!

To start I want to remind you that essential oils are incredibly powerful and a little goes a long ways! Always dilute the essential oils when using them with babies and children, and the 'less is more' philosophy is key. Essential oils are very potent and babies are tiny beings so they don't need much. Plus, their skin is very sensitive so we want to be sure to use gentle oils with them.

Lavender: This is an incredibly gentle oil to use for baby. It can help with soothing baby and promote restful sleep. Lavender is also excellent for keeping skin healthy, especially the bum! Check below for a DIY Diaper Cream recipe!

Breastfeeding: Fennel can help with increasing milk supply. And on the flip side, Peppermint helps decrease supply when you're ready to cut back.

Frankincense: aids in bonding experience. A religious practice for many cultures. Can be calming for baby after the intense experience of entering a new world! A drop on baby's crown and down the spine. Frankincense can also be used on a daily basis for baby to help balance all body systems.

Myrrh is know to be the "Mother Oil", it can help to increase the bonding between mother and baby. Add a drop to your 'perfume' spots, behind ears, wrists, neck, and let baby benefit from the scent when you're close.

Roman Chamomile: Diffuse in baby's room for tummy discomfort.

Digestive Discomfort: A drop of Digestive Blend or Fennel with FCO on baby's tummy can help bring relief. Or a blend of Lavender and Wild Orange diluted and rubbed on belly clockwise.

Dry Skin: Frankincnese and/or Lavender with FCO and applied to area of need.

Essential Oils For Pregnancy: Labor & Birth

Essential Oils For Pregnancy: Labor & Birth

It's finally here! What you've been preparing for for the last night months. There are so many ways that essential oils can help you throughout this process: on a physical, emotional, and mental level. There is a lot going on throughout the birthing process, and I hope to help prepare you with the essential oils that will best support you.

Essential Oils for Pregnancy: 2nd Trimester

Essential Oils for Pregnancy: 2nd Trimester

I want to start by saying that every woman is going to experience each phase of pregnancy in their own unique way. The tips and issues I address are the generalities we go by, but they are not the rule. It is so easy to think something is wrong with me if I'm not experiencing things the same way as everyone else...but let me tell you, this is an incredibly unique and individualized process. And that should be celebrated!

Essential Oils for Pregnancy: 1st Trimester

Essential oils are a great way to support your body as it goes through the many changes during pregnancy! Many over the counter meds are either unsafe for pregnancy, or definitely questionable as to what their side effects are. The beauty of essential oils is that they are safe, natural and effective. Not all essential oils are created equal, far from it, so you want to make sure that the oils you are choosing are the highest quality for safety and effectiveness.

Before we start I want to note that the most important place to begin when addressing pregnancy and health is with your nutrition! What you put into your body during this time is going to have the biggest impact on you and your baby. Check out this blog to learn how to support your body with nutrition.

I've found that each stage of pregnancy brings completely different changes so I'm breaking them down with each trimester.

1ST TRIMESTER

Energy: First of all, give yourself a break and rest! I felt really guilty at the beginning by how tired I was. But your body is going through some major changes, and well, it's creating life!! No big deal, right. Of course, we still have life to live and daily tasks to get done, Wild Orange is a great energy booster, and the smell is quite nice. Combine Wild Orange with Peppermint in your palms, rub together and inhale for an instant refresher and energizer.

Mood: Your hormones are going to play some nasty tricks on you throughout this time! Be patient with yourself. Wild Orange, and any of the citrus oils, is great for lifting the spirits. This can be a trying time, I know it was for me. Combining Wild Orange with the Joyful Blend, Invigorating Blend, Ylang Ylang, or Frankincense are excellent ways to help keep your spirits lifted.

Digestive Support: Hormones again! The changes in your hormones slows the digestive system way down, and you'll feel it! Digestive Blend, Fennel and Peppermint are excellent for supporting the discomfort that results. Rubbing a drop or 2 of any of these oils around my belly button really helped ease the burden.

Nausea: Ah, yes! The standard sign of pregnancy. If you haven't dealt with nausea then thank the pregnancy gods because you are lucky! This was the hardest part for me, by far. Peppermint, Lavender, Caramom and Ginger are safe and gentle ways to ease some of this discomfort. You can use these together in a blend or separate. I found the scent of ginger to be a bit bothersome (most scents at this stage were a bit bothersome for me though!) so I always used it on the bottoms of my feet. Adding peppermint to make a blend helps make the scent more bearable as well. It's the little tricks that make a big difference!

Heart burn: This can feel different for each person, sometimes its that lovely feeling of fire burning in your chest, for me it felt like something was constantly coming up, either way, its not fun! Digestive blend incredibly beneficial, you can rub it on your stomach or chest in a circular motion when the discomfort arises.

Breast Tenderness: This is another common tell tale sign that you're pregnant, and one my husband wasn't particularly fond of, if you know what I mean! Grapefruit, Lavender, and Ylang Ylang can be used individually or as a blend to help bring relief. Apply these oils topically to the breast area and massage in to help with tenderness relief. These are all gentle oils, but diluting them with a carrier oil will help with any sensitivities.

Stretch Marks: Most likely you're not going to start seeing stretch marks in the first trimester, but starting a practice to support your skin health now will be excellent as a preventative measure. Invigorating Blend, Lavender, Wild Orange, Cypress, Geranium is a great blend you can make with fractionated coconut oil to use topically to help keep your skin healthy and ready to adjust with the changes that will come. Frankincense and the Anti-Aging Blend are also excellent for skin health.

Sexy Oils: give your sex life a boost

Remember those days when you first met your significant other and couldn't keep your hands off each other?

What the heck happened to those days?

I'll tell you what happened...Life happened. Hormones happened. Kids happened. Work, stress, cleaning, mortgages, time happened. Many things have happened since those carefree, sexually charged, passion filled, romantic days.

And that's good, because all of those things have enriched your life. But they shouldn't be a death sentence to your sex life. I mean, I'm no relationship expert, and I'm only 2 years into my marriage, but I'm pretty sure sex is important for a healthy relationship.

Thankfully there are things you can do to bring back that spark.

It starts with getting a night free from all that other stuff. Get a babysitter, put your phones on silent, throw all the dirty laundry in the closet and close the door.

Next step, get your oils out.

Essential oils can have a huge impact on setting the mood, supporting your sexy hormones, and that "I don't have enough energy to wash my hair, let alone get frisky in the bedroom" attitude.

Here are the best oils to start with:

Ylang Ylang

This beautiful oil has a lovely floral fragrance, definitely one of my faves. I love combining it with bergamot in the diffuser. It has been used for centuries in wedding ceremonies and as a powerful aphrodisiac, makes sense right? It is also known for lessening tension and stress, which we all know nothing gets in the way of getting in the mood more than that daunting 'To Do' list running through your mind.

Blend for Women

This is a beautiful essential oil blend of Bergamot Peel, Ylang Ylang Flower, Patchouli Leaf, Vanilla Bean Absolute, Jasmine Flower Absolute, Cinnamon Bark, Labdanum, Vetiver Root, Hawaiian Sandalwood, Cocoa Bean Absolute, and Rose Flower. This is an excellent perfume for women, so skip that chemical laden perfume you've been using and give this stuff a try. It's also known to entice and intrigue the senses. Rub a drop on your wrists, back of neck and pulse points on a daily basis. You'll fall in love all over again!

Wild Orange

This wonderful oil is like sunshine in a bottle. It is energizing and can help lift the mood. I know for me nothings happening in the bedroom if I'm feeling down in the dumps.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon has been known for its aphrodisiac abilities for ages. It has been used to enhance appetite, both in the kitchen and in the bedroom if you know what I mean (no I don't mean late night binging in bed). Cinnamon essential oil is the oil of sexual harmony and supportive in embracing your own physical attractiveness (which we all know is key for getting in the mood).

This is a 'hot' oil and can be irritating to the skin. Be sure to dilute with a carrier oil. Rub on the big toe, known as the sexual hormone reflexology point. Who knew feet could be sexy after all!

Digestive Blend

Because it's difficult to get in the mood when your stomach won't stop rumbling. Enough said!

It's time you Stop all those excuses and start oiling up. Everyone responds differently so experiment and see what oils work best for you. Trust me, your sex life is worth it!

Disclaimer: the key to essential oils is their quality, and let me tell you all essential oils are not created equal. Be sure to use oils that are certified pure therapeutic grade. CONTACT ME if you want to know the oils I trust most and personally use for my family

4 OILS TO ASSIST YOUR MEDITATION PRACTICE

4 OILS TO ASSIST YOUR MEDITATION PRACTICE

One of the best and simplest things that you can do to improve your health is starting a meditation practice. In our crazy, fast paced world, the practice of slowing things down, coming into the present and calming the noise has endless benefits.

But with all that we have coming at us on a daily basis, it can be difficult to jump right into meditation.

TOP OILS FOR DIGESTIVE SUPPORT

TOP OILS FOR DIGESTIVE SUPPORT

There is something to that saying “I have a gut feeling”. The small intestine houses around 100 million neurons, which is why the gut now has the title the “second Brain”.

Researchers are also considering it the 'engine' to our body. It houses 70% of your immune system and it is responsible for producing and storing neurotransmitters that regulate our moods. In fact the intestinal walls produce and store 90% of our Serotonin.

HOW TO USE ESSENTIAL OILS

HOW TO USE ESSENTIAL OILS

I remember when I got my first kit of essential oils. I was so excited to smell everything and try them out. It was like Christmas morning!

The smells were magical. I opened each bottle up and inhaled with a big 'aaaah' following. The lemon, lavender and peppermint, each one taking me to a different world. And then I got to the oregano, and well some people love this one. Let's just say I prefer to keep this one near my feet when I use it!
